Parisian trio dOP’s reputation for provoking dancefloors into a frenzy with their “strange, sexy, infectious brand of irreverently soulful house” is well documented across several continents. They’re also reputed to craft organic dance music in the classical way, using real instruments and voices. What isn’t spoken about as often is their ability to stitch together memorable mixes.
This hour-long selection they’ve put together for us is a fabulous reflection of their Indian odyssey; a collage of kitschy Bollywood rhythms, chock-full of percussions, laced with funk and all placed under a bed of infectious beats. It’s swinging, much like Jonathan Illel/Jaw’s stage persona, it’s tongue-in-cheek (the mix ends with strains of ‘Main Hoon Don’) and it has a sense of humour (Bollywood B-grade horror flick, Sansani’s ‘Sansani Khez Koi Baat’ featuring Asha Bhosle’s vocals).
